Electrician's Assistant (Low Voltage Systems) Course Content

This Electrician's Assistant (Low Voltage Systems) Course consists of Knowledge Modules and Practical Skill Modules. Together, these modules develop workplace readiness, electrical installation skills, cable installation competence, wiring techniques, and electrical safety awareness. The programme includes knowledge modules and practical skills modules designed to prepare learners for employment in the electrical industry.

Knowledge Modules

There are Three (3) Knowledge Modules in the Electrician's Assistant (Low Voltage Systems) Skills Programme. These modules build the theoretical foundation required to understand electrical safety, electrical tools and equipment, wiring systems, cable installations, and basic electrical principles.

Workplace Health and Safety
  • This module teaches workplace health and safety requirements, hazard identification, risk management, first aid basics, fire safety procedures, ladder safety, barricading methods, and safe working practices in electrical environments.

  • Learners develop an understanding of electrical tools, equipment handling, housekeeping requirements, electrical safety principles, electrical circuits, and basic electricity used in low-voltage electrical systems.

  • This module introduces wiring methods, conductor sizing, cable identification, colour coding, cable installation techniques, cable support systems, and cable termination requirements.

Practical Skill Modules

There are Six (6) Practical Skill Modules in the Electrician's Assistant (Low Voltage Systems) Skills Programme. These practical modules provide hands-on experience in cable installation, electrical wiring, conduit installation, and cable termination procedures.

Prepare Trenches and Lay Underground Cables
  • Learners develop practical skills in trench preparation, cable laying, cable protection methods, backfilling procedures, and underground cable installation according to industry standards.

  • This module focuses on handling, storing, supporting, and installing above-ground cable systems while maintaining safety and quality requirements.

  • Learners gain practical experience in preparing installation areas and installing distribution boards, electrical panels, junction boxes, and associated fittings.

  • This module covers conduit preparation, conduit installation, wire drawing procedures, cable routing methods, and wire way installation techniques.

  • Learners develop skills in wire sizing, electrical wiring installation, cable routing, and the preparation of simple electrical installation drawings.

  • This practical module develops competence in cable termination, wire termination, conductor grouping, cable identification, and safe electrical connection procedures.
