Plumbing Hand Course Content

This Plumbing Hand Course consists of Knowledge Modules and Application Modules. Together, these modules develop workplace readiness, plumbing installation skills, maintenance competence, and practical industry experience. The qualification includes theoretical learning and supervised practical application.

Knowledge Modules

There are Nine (9) Knowledge Modules in the Plumbing Hand Skills Programme.

Health, Safety, Quality and Legislation
  • This module teaches occupational health and safety requirements, quality standards, hazard identification, risk management, and legislation applicable to plumbing activities.

  • Learners develop an understanding of environmental sustainability, water conservation, energy efficiency, ethical workplace conduct, and responsible plumbing practices.

  • This module introduces plumbing tools, equipment, materials, components, workshop practices, and safe site procedures used in plumbing operations.

  • Learners develop skills in interpreting plumbing drawings, understanding measurements, and applying scientific principles relevant to plumbing installations.

  • This module covers water supply systems, drainage principles, water flow, system components, and plumbing design fundamentals.

  • Learners study the principles, components, and installation requirements of above-ground and below-ground drainage systems.

  • This module focuses on sanitary fixtures such as basins, toilets, baths, showers, sinks, and associated plumbing fittings.
  • Learners gain knowledge of hot and cold-water distribution systems, pipework, fittings, valves, and installation requirements.

  • This module develops an understanding of plumbing maintenance procedures, repair techniques, fault identification, and system servicing requirements.

Application Modules

There three application modules;

Install and Maintain Above Ground Soil Waste and Vent Pipe Systems, Terminal Fittings and Sanitary Fixtures
  • Learners develop practical skills in installing and maintaining above-ground soil waste and vent pipe systems, sanitary fixtures, terminal fittings, taps, valves, basins, baths, bidets, and sinks.

  • Learners gain practical experience in installing, maintaining, and repairing cold-water and hot-water pipe systems, fittings, valves, and associated plumbing components.

  • Learners practice driving, manoeuvring, lifting, moving, stacking, de-stacking, route planning, load positioning, and maintaining stability while operating an Order Picker Lift Truck.
