Knowledge Modules

There are Eight (8) Knowledge Modules (70 credits) in the Learning and Development Professional Course, providing learners with essential theoretical knowledge in learning culture, programme design, quality assurance, leadership, stakeholder engagement, moderation practices, project management, and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).

Theory of learning culture
  • This module introduces the concept of organisational learning culture and explains how learning environments support continuous development, knowledge sharing, and professional growth within organisations.
  • Learners develop an understanding of research, analysis, and instructional design principles used to develop effective occupational learning programmes.
  • This module focuses on systems and practices used to ensure quality in training programmes, including compliance with standards and evaluation processes.
  • Learners develop leadership skills required to manage learning programmes, training teams, and organisational learning strategies.
  • This module focuses on building effective relationships with stakeholders involved in training, education, and workforce development.
  • Learners develop project planning, coordination, and monitoring skills required to manage training initiatives effectively.
  • This module introduces moderation systems used to ensure assessment fairness, consistency, and reliability in learning programmes.
  • Learners understand how to evaluate existing skills and knowledge gained through work experience and informal learning.

Practical Skills Modules

There are Eight (8) Practical Skills Modules (130 credits) in the Learning and Development Professional Course designed to equip learners with practical competencies required to implement learning programmes, manage training initiatives, and ensure quality learning delivery.

Conduct stakeholder analysis, mapping and profiling to promote their engagement, collaboration and a learning culture
  • The focus of the learning in this module is on providing the learner an opportunity to practice skills to
    conduct stakeholder analysis for meaningful engagement in occupational or vocation learning and
    development interventions
  • The focus of the learning in this module is on providing the learner an opportunity to plan and implement
    Work-Based Learning and development programme.
  • The focus of the learning in this module is on providing the learner an opportunity to gather and analyse
    information for the design and development of learning and development programme
  • The focus of the learning in this module is on providing the learner an opportunity to develop or adapt
    an organisation’s quality management system to achieve, maintain and improve overall organisational
    performance in learning and development.
  • The focus of the learning in this module is on providing the learner an opportunity to initiate and
    implement a learning and development project in a vocational learning and development setting
  • The focus of the learning in this module is on providing the learner an opportunity to plan, conduct and
    review moderation of assessments.
  • The focus of the learning in this module is on providing the learner an opportunity to implement the
    RPL process to recognise the candidate’s prior knowledge and skills for the purposes of alternative
    access and admission, recognition and certification.
  • The focus of the learning in this module is on providing the learner an opportunity to lead and manage
    the implementation of learning and development interventions in an organisation.

Workplace Experience Modules

There are Six (6) Work Experience Modules (80 credits) that provide learners with structured workplace exposure and real industry experience in learning and development environments.

Research and stakeholder networking and collaboration processes
  • Gain exposure as part of the team in the processes of conducting stakeholder analysis for meaningful
    stakeholder engagement in occupational or vocation learning and development interventions in reallife work environment.
  • Gain exposure as part of the team in the processes of conducting WBL programme implementation in
    occupational or vocation learning and development interventions in real-life work environment.
  • Gain exposure as part of the team in the processes of designing and developing a quality management
    system in occupational or vocation learning and development in real-life work environment
  • The focus of the learning in this module is on providing the learner an opportunity to plan, conduct and
    review internal and external moderation and/or verification of assessments
  • The focus of the learning in this module is on providing the learner an opportunity to implement the
    RPL process to recognise the candidate’s prior knowledge and skills for the purposes of alternative
    access and admission, recognition and certification.

The Learning and Development Professional (LDP) course is a nationally recognised qualification (NQF Level 7) that prepares professionals to design, manage, and implement learning and development initiatives in organisations. This course develops practical skills, workplace experience, and theoretical knowledge to lead training, learning programmes, and skills development projects effectively.

 

This course is ideal for professionals in learning and development, human resource development, training management, or skills development roles. It is also suitable for those aspiring to become learning programme managers, skills development facilitators, or training consultants in corporate, educational, or government organisations.

Learners should have:

  • A qualification at NQF Level 6 in Education, Training and Development, Human Resource Development, or a related field
  • OR relevant work experience in learning and development, which can be considered through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
  • Basic communication, analytical, and computer literacy skills

The course typically takes 2 years and 4 months to complete, depending on the study mode and pace. It combines classroom learning,  practical exercises, and workplace-based learning.

Upon successful completion of all modules and assessments, learners receive the Advanced Occupational Certificate: Learning and Development Professional (NQF Level 7), registered with SAQA and quality assured by the QCTO.
