This programme consists of Knowledge Modules and Practical Skills Modules that prepare learners for underground hardrock mining operations.

Knowledge Modules

There are Two (2) Knowledge Modules in this programme.

Health, Safety, and the Environment
  • This module develops an understanding of occupational health, workplace safety, environmental protection, PPE usage, emergency response, hazard management, and underground mining conditions.

  • Learners study mining terminology, mining processes, hazard identification and risk assessment (HIRA), explosives awareness, mine ground control, and underground support systems.

Practical Skills Modules

There are Two (2) Practical Skills Modules designed to build hands-on competence.

Apply, Exercise, and Ensure Safety, Health and Environmental Measures and Procedures
  • This module develops practical skills in workplace inspections, risk assessment, emergency response, environmental monitoring, gas testing, fire prevention, PPE use, and dealing with underground ground and strata conditions.

  • Learners gain practical experience in using mining tools and equipment, handling explosives and initiation systems, preparing primers, charging shot holes, installing support systems, preparing work areas, and completing blasting assistant duties safely.
