Knowledge Modules

There are Nine (9) Knowledge Modules (91 credits) in the Occupational Certificate: Electrician Course. These modules build the theoretical foundation needed to understand electrical principles, electrical installations, wiring systems, electrical machinery, fault finding, electrical protection systems, and workplace safety in industrial, mining, construction, and commercial electrical environments.

Health, Safety, Quality and Legislation
  • This module teaches occupational health and safety legislation, risk management, PPE usage, hazard identification, fire prevention, and workplace electrical safety principles.
  • Learners develop skills in the use, care, maintenance, and handling of electrical tools, measuring instruments, testing equipment, and installation materials.
  • This module introduces electrical principles, electrical circuits, magnetism, electrical calculations, conductors, insulators, and electronic systems.
  • Learners understand the electrical industry environment, workplace expectations, trade test requirements, and professional responsibilities.
  • This module covers electrical symbols, cable installations, conduit systems, earthing, bonding, and wiring methods according to SANS standards.

Workplace Experience Modules

There are Three (3) Work Experience Modules (156 credits) in the Occupational Certificate: Electrician Course. These modules provide workplace exposure in electrical installations, electrical testing, commissioning activities, maintenance operations, electrical fault finding, and electrical control systems within supervised industrial and construction environments.
